Coconut oil is a very versatile carrier oil.   It is a wonderful face cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen and can treat many skin disorders.  Due to the way it is processed, fractionated coconut oil has a high concentration of Capric and Caprylic acid, which gives it an amazing amount of antioxidant and disinfecting properties (antimicrobial).  Benefits also include treating skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, diaper rash, chapped lips and dry skin.  It can also help to prevent acne and soothe skin irritations.  It is used as a carrier oil, since it facilitates the absorption of other oils and herbal extracts.  Used in massages and in aromatherapy as a carrier oil.

Hair, like skin, is prone to sun damage.  Coconut oil is a natural sunscreen, with an SPF of 8.  If you are planning a day out in the sun, use it as a leave-in conditioner in your hair for all day protection.  And, while you are at it, use it on exposed skin as well.
