A COMMON SPICE WITH UNCOMMON EFFECTS

Found in kitchens all over the world, this heartwarming spice has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine for a wide range of digestive complaints. It comes from the bark of an evergreen tree that grows commonly in China and southern Asia. Chinese or “cassia” cinnamon is the most widely studied of all the cinnamon varieties.

CINNAMON AND INSULIN

Clinical evidence is mounting that cassia cinnamon can improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin, which equates to better blood sugar control and a reduction in circulating levels of insulin. This is important because too much insulin can signal your body to store any unused sugar as fat!. It is the polyphenols in cassia cinnamon, such as hydroxychalcone, that are thought to make cells more receptive to insulin so that they can better manage those blood sugar highs and lows. Studies also show that cassia cinnamon can slow the emptying of the stomach after meals, which reduces blood sugar spikes.
